Salicylic Acid - The Ultimate Natural Acne-fighting Ingredient?

Let's get technical!  Salicylic acid (SA) is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA as you probably know) that occurs naturally in plants such as willow bark. Salicylic acid has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and also works as an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells.    Screaming natural… screaming anti-bacterial! But how does this actually help you?

Well we all know that acne may form due to excess oils and dead skin cells blocking powers, not to mention bacterias getting trapped inside - yaak! Hey ho it's life and it happens to the best of us. This hero ingredient treats the pimple and skin by unblocking pores through breaking down sebum (oils) and bacterias for easier release and even better it prevents further breakouts.

Succinic Acid Is a Hot New Acne Ingredient Worth Knowing About ?

You probably haven’t yet heard of Succinic Acid and to be totally honest neither had until our research into the best acne fighters began. But mark our words- its a buzzy new ingredient in the skincare world and more specifically with acne/blemish prone skin.

So what is it and why is it soooo amazing?

Let’s get into it!  Succinic acid is an antimicrobial compound that comes from amber or sugar cane, but is also naturally found in plant tissues. Now don’t be thrown off it is nothing like an exfoliating acid such as AHAs or BHAs it is more so gentle on the skin say …like a Hyaluronic acid and truly safe for all skin types. This ingredient is amazing as it is a major multitasker. Imagine one ingredient that has antimicrobial properties (basically it actively fighters bacteria and fungi), it is an effective anti-inflammatory, it hydrates the skin, offers antioxidant protection and accelerates cellular renewal- Mic drop!

The Magic Of Niacinamide

I’m sure we’ve all vaguely heard of Niacinamide…so aside from being popular what actually is it? And what does it do? Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3- one that is known to have many benefits to your skin’s health, specifically in reducing inflammation and improving skin texture . So how effective is this ingredient for acne-prone skin? Although it does not directly kill acne-causing bacteria, this superstar compound boasts of anti-inflammatory properties and helps regulate the production of sebum, which can lead to fewer breakouts in the long run. Dermatologists clinical studies have advised using a concentration of 4-5%- this is considered the sweet spot for inflammatory acne treatment.

Centella Asiatica - The Historical Medicinal Herb You Didn’t Know You Needed?

Bit of a strange name- don’t you think? But interesting to say the least.

Did you know that Centella Asiatica has a long history as a medicinal herb?  It's now being used as a skincare ingredient because of its compounds that contain potential to treat acne along with many other skin benefits! So what exactly is it?

Well in short- it is a tropical medicinal plant found in native countries such as India- and yes we travelled alllll that way to source it *joke*.  So for thousands of years this plant has been used for anti-ageing preparations for the skin -must be pretty good then!

The benefits? Not only does it have anti-inflammatory properties and high in antioxidants but it prevents anti-aging and UV damage, speeds up skin healing and soothes skin. So this ultimately is your healing and prevention. What she said!

Hyaluronic acid- The pedestal for hydration?
Hyaluronic acid is having a moment, but this popular skincare ingredient may be more than just a fad. Though it’s best known as a humectant- an ingredient that helps lock in moisture, it can do more than keep your skin from drying out.

So how does this help those pesky spots? As you might already know, acne may occur due to an overproduction of oil..that yummy sebum stuff- eek!  Well in controlling the excess sebum production then, can help prevent pore blockage and pimples..spots..zits whatever you wanna call them. Not to mention hyaluronic acid helps improve skin barrier function, which in turn will reduce any redness inflammation.
